Beautiful Day

I was fortunate to get in a 40 mile ride on this beautiful Sunday morning. Temp 60 with light winds and clear blue skies. I was surprised not to see any cyclists out. 20 miles into the ride, there they were. 100's of cyclists. It was the Staten Island Bike Club's, Pumpkin Patch Ride. This is the last major club event of the year. They do a really good job and even have pie at the rest stops. If you preregister you get their famous long sleeve T-Shirt. I'm glad they had great weather for this event.

Rain

The weather did not look as bad as predicted. I had some errands to run so I decided to chance it. 2 miles into the ride it began to pour. Not wanting to turn back and take my car, I put on my rain jacket and continued on. 14 miles later, a bit damp, but, no worse for wear.

Fun Work

Most of my free time is spent riding. Sometimes I have to work on my bike. Today was such a day. The weather promised to be rainy (you know how that goes). I thought it would be a good time to do those modifications to my Greenway. I moved the brake and gear levers in and cut the handle bar ends 1 inch on each side. I didn't like how wide they were. This bike has 6 cable housings compared to 4 on most bikes. To make matters worse they were much too long. I trimmed 4 inches off of each housing and had to readjust the brakes and gears. I added some new cable tires to further neaten things up. I re-positioned my head lights and computer. Also repaired fenders. Can't do all this work without cleaning the bike. I took my time and things went without incidence. Although it never rained and it would have been a nice riding day, I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Utility Day

I took the Greenway today for a day of errands. 10 miles to work to pick up my schedule, then down to Freehold on the Henry Hudson Trail and finally to the stores for various supplies. 29 plush miles. It's been a while since I've ridden the Greenway. I really do enjoy it's versatility and no other bike gets as many Cool Comments!

Fall Is Here

Ready for my morning ride I put on my usual shorts and tank top. One step outside and I new I was in the wrong attire. It was in the 50's with NW winds at 15 mph. I just came back from the warm South and was not prepared for this quick climate change. It was just 2 days ago I was swimming at the beach. It was an awesome morning and I was excited to get back on my recumbent. I put on my favorite knickers, full cut T-shirt, light jacket and off I went. It was a slow start as the last 2 weeks of riding were on my Fuji around the campgrounds and small towns. I had to reacquaint myself with my bent legs. Halfway into this 40 mile ride my speed picked up and I was able to loose the jacket. The cool, crisp, blue skies brought out the cyclers, bikers, walkers, joggers and runners. Although it was a bit of a shock this morning I am looking forward to this new season.
